The Brampton Chamber Choir is a small group that explores the vast treasure house of lesser known as well as more well known music from all periods, but specialises in the Renaissance and early Baroque. It usually sings "Alla Cappella", but also sometimes with orchestra.
A good barometer of the atmosphere of the choir is the fact that it has a very low membership turnover rate. |
The small size of the choir lends itself to sensitive and personal interpretations of the music, and members can feel that they have a more positive input to the performance than is possible with larger groups, and because of this some members get the opportunity to sing solo or in small groups. A Consort in which members perform "one-to-a-part" was formed from the choir and has a musical life of its own, sometimes performing with the choir and sometimes separately. Both choir and consort rehearse once a week except during school holidays. The choir is run by a committee. Admission to the choir is by the conductor's assessment and a reasonable sight reading ability is desirable. A membership fee is payable but music is provided. Regular attendance at rehearsels is important. The choir performs to paying audiences and is sometimes asked to sing at church services including weddings and funerals. It has performed a vast repertoire of superb music, and has recorded. |
